It was the last place in Catalonia where bullfights were held, since the Parliament of Catalonia passed a law banning bullfighting events on 28 July 2010 that came into force in 2012.

It is owned by the Balañá family, who placed it under the control of the Casa Matilla, an organisation which manages a number of bullrings. The plaza is currently used for sporting, musical and circus events,

The building originally had a noucentista architectural style, the work of Manuel Joaquim Raspall i Mayol.[2] The expansion work was done by Ignasi Mas i Morell and Domènec Sugrañes i Gras to give it its current facade, strongly influenced by Mudéjar and Byzantine architecture.[3] It is one of the larger public arenas in Barcelona, with a capacity of 19,582 for bullfights or about 25,000 for events such as rock concerts (using part of the ring for spectators).

The museum isn't curated very well and more like a trophy collection. More für people who are already interested in bullfighting, no info here for people who never saw a fight. The rest of the building is pretty interesting though, you can go exploring, but a few info plates would be a great addition

The Plaza Monumental de Barcelona, often known simply as La Monumental was a bullring in the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was the last bullfighting arena in commercial operation in Catalonia. It was inaugurated in 1914 under the name Plaza de El Sport and was immediately expanded and renamed in 1916 with its current name. It is situated at the confluence of the Gran Via and Carrer Marina (Marina Street) in the Eixample district. It had a capacity of 19,582 within 26 rows of lines, boxes, and bleachers on the first floor inside and a superior barrage surrounding the building.

Well preserved relic of the past. The Bullring is well worth a visit and you can imagine the sounds, aromas and colours from its hay day. Easy to get to and from and a must see for all history buffs.

The La Monumental Bullfighting ring was a very interesting place to visit and was right next the the Monumental metro stop which was handy. The whole of the venue is opened up so allows you walk around all of the stands, the back areas and even go into the centre ring. It costs 6€ to enter for adults which gives you access to the venue and also the museum of bullfighting. It was a good experience of culture past and history. The ring has seen better days I'm sure however, the people running it do all they can to make the experience worthwhile. Worth a visit if you want to experience a little history.
