    Wow, what a horrible reservation system these guys have. it took me ages to book a car. And don't even try it on mobile. I hope the physical service will be better. Some things about the booking system: 1. they misrepresented the car i would get. I selected a 'estandar elite', and only in the confirmation email did they mention i actually booked an 'economico'. In the intermediate steps there was no mention of the exact type.. 2. the form wouldn't submit, because they said there was an error in my street address. After lots of trial and error it turns out they meant that they couldn't handle the EMAIL address instead. 3. the confirmation includes an address for inquiries, but strangely the address the confirmation came from is not replyable. 4. i can't seem to get an english version of their spain site.

    Avoid at all costs. The woman tried to be really helpful but the old male in there was the grumpiest bloke over ever met!

    I've rented from Europcar several times, and I have not had any problems with them at all. I always arrange my rental from the U.S. using the website and their customer service chat. All my questions were answered to my satisfaction (such as was it ok to drive from Spain to France and back), our cars have been good, and the whole process checking out and returning our car went smoothly. The thing that would make me add a fifth star would be quicker times checking out. Since we prepaid and they already had all of our information I don't know why it couldn't have been all ready or at least only take a few minutes. They can learn something about this from Hertz who has mastered the quick check-out (I don't usually have to go in the office - just show my ID and my keys and paperwork are in the car!). I can't remember the exact time check-out took, but it seemed like it took *at least* 1/2 hour even though we walked right up and there were no other customers ahead of us. Returning the car went much quicker - probably about 5 minutes. The other thing I didn't like was how expensive the insurance was, although I don't know how much Europcar has to do with the actual price. I have to think this is the major way they make money. The insurance is more expensive than the actual car rental fee! I consulted with my home car insurance agent, and he said I should get it, because U.S. insurance would be useless (or at least not the best thing to have) in case of an accident, incident, or theft. I didn't go with my usual American car rental companies (Hertz, Budget, Thrifty), because they did not allow travel between countries.
